We did a last minute camping trip up to Stanley, Idaho. We did not book any campgrounds.
The views on the way to Stanley are amazing. We found a scenic stop and hiked down to take a look. I definitely want to add some rafting to a future adventure.
When we pulled into town we found Sunny Gulch Campground just down the road from Redfish Lake. It was summer so campgrounds were full. We found a spot in the middle of the campground.
I will admit it was not the best campground I have ever been to. The sights were very exposed to each other. I like a little more privacy when I camp. We grabbed one of the last spots open and had no tree coverage at all. There were also no tables in the sights.
My best friend always has great ideas. This gave some of the best laughs how determined she was to make it work. We ended up moving some boys in her tent and moved her and the mattress to my tent.
The river was just behind the campground. The kids loved coming down to explore.
I found a nice spot to drop my line. Fishing on the river is just so peaceful and relaxing.
A lot of activities I do outside really involve pushing yourself to your limits. Fishing has never been that way for me. It is about being in that moment. Listening. Right until you hook that fish.
We were just down the road from Redfish Lake. It was extremely busy. We were glad to find a spot that was a little more secluded.
We had a pretty good walk in from the parking lot. I had the best view of these muscles on the way in and out from our spot. Going again, I would bring a canopy of some sort. It was hard to find a place for shade and a place to keep the food.
The kids and us loved being in the water. It was far enough away from boat traffic that we could enjoy. We did get stopped for my paddle board not being tagged. So unfortunately we didn't get to use it while we were there. I have had it for years and taken it all over, not once got stopped. I was also told it didn't need one, so I am looking into it.
The pictures are not the best quality because it was unfortunately fire season. The smoke was bad. There was not any view of the surrounding mountains. Thankfully, it didn't impact our experience just the views.
I love these inflatables I picked up at Costco. You can actually hook them together. They have a cup holder and are extremely comfortable. Off in the distance there was a platform the kids were able to jump off of.
Kids couldn't be any happier when there is water. The water is choppy and could easily pull kids out. I would say this lake is very important to watch how far out they are going so they don't get pulled out.
Whiskey loved his adventure and all the attention. This is his I am on vacay and don't give a crap what you do to me look. We had to look for the dog friendly area, obviously make sure you have a leash with you and something to pick up after your dogs.
We found a cute ice cream shop in Stanley. They even had ice cream for the dogs so everyone was happy.
I couldn't get enough of the scenery on the drive home. Idaho views never get old to me. I hope I never get to the point where it doesn't take my breath away and I stop appreciating the world I live in.
We will definitely be back to explore more of the area. I won't head back to that campground but there are more than enough places to still encounter.
