Hiking Alice Lake

A few years ago I came across Alice Lake on Pinterest. I fell in love and added it to my bucket list of places I needed to go. My sister loves to hike and Alice Lake came up one day and she said the infamous words, "What are you waiting for?" So we piled in her truck at 4 am a few weeks later and headed towards the Sawtooth Mountains.

It was a few hour drive for us and next time would definitely I would go the night before and be a little more rested for the hike. But this hike did not disappoint. Our total hike was 15 miles, 7.5 each way. There is a full loop that can be done overnight and the plan for me is to go back and do an overnight to do that.

Be prepared for this hike. I wore my Danner hiking boots in and Teva sandals on the way out. There are some very rock areas and good shoes are essential. Some areas on the hike are very exposed so lots of water and sunscreen is a must. This hike needs to be done through the summer with July and early August being the ideal time.

I had a brand new puppy and well, let's say she thoroughly enjoyed the hike. We did see other dogs on the hike just make sure to bring water and snacks for them. I ended up carrying her out in my backpack on the way out since she fell asleep at every stop on our way out.

Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the lake and the views because they DO NOT disappoint. We were so ready to get to the lake that the first lake we came across we thought was Alice Lake but it is not, definitely make sure you keep going. My niece did go and put her feet in and did see a leech so be mindful if you decide to hop in the lake, you may want to do a lookover on yourself after getting out. We saw one person floating but no one else swimming.

This was definitely one of the most beautiful hikes I have been on. It is a long hike with some steep incline areas. Make sure to get started early enough depending on how much time you want at the lake. There were quite a few campers which is a great option even if you are not doing the full loop. Alice Lake is a definite gem here in Idaho.

On to the next encounter...
